Fraser Tech Hockey Club

End of the Winter Season

The 2013 season is approaching its climax with most grade's championship finals only a few games away. Good luck to all teams.

The committee is planning a great celebration to close off the season on Saturday the 21st of September. We'll start with a dinner at 6pm and move on to some presentations at 7pm. It would be great to see you, your family and friends there to celebrate our sport's, our club's, our teams', and our members' achievements in 2013. Details on the website here.

The committee has started a project to record the hockey history and stories of our club's life members and publish them on the website. The first of these was posted last weekend, featuring Doug Sommerville the current Premier Men's Coach.

Fear not, 6-a-side and 11-a-side social summer hockey leagues are sure to follow. Keep an eye on the website, where the details will be posted.

Doug Sommerville - FTHC Life Member

Doug Sommerville is a well-known and respected member of Fraser Tech Hockey Club, joining in 1976. He had started his first job with the Ministry of Works a year earlier so joining the club was a good way to meet people and make new friends. The team coach at that time was Parbhu Parsotam who is our present Club patron. While he was coaching at Hamilton Boy’s High School, he was also coaching the Fraser Tech Prem women’s team from 1988 to 1990. In 1992, he became the coach for the Fraser Tech Prem men’s team for 2 years but spent the next 4 years away in Palmerston North. He returned to Hamilton in 1998, where he again took up the position as the Premier men’s coach.
Doug was awarded a Life Membership to the club in 2009, after many years of hard work and a strong commitment to Fraser Tech hockey. He has made an invaluable contribution to the club and to hockey, using his wealth of knowledge and experience, dedicating much of his spare time, encouraging and supporting players of all ages.
